The Civil War's Honorable People
The Civil War created heroes and killed others. Ulysses Simpson Grant was born a leader during the Civil War. As a civilian, his life wasn't much of anything; he was once given a slave, and he could have sold if for $1,000. But instead, he gave the slave his freedom. He was also a heavy drinker on sudden occasions, but when preparing for a battle, he was always sober. He was somebody during the war, somebody who meant something good. But some people died. Abraham Lincoln died a few days after the war ended. He was the one who could have helped the reconstruction of the nation, the one that could keep the peace for four more years. But instead, he was assassinated by a 26 year-old actor. The Civil War had many people to be recognized, and six are shown here.
